| In the meantime, KADO (Korean Agency for
Digital Opportunity and Promotion) has been making efforts to promote
international cooperation in the IT sector to bridge the global digital
divide and to build human capacities among participating countries.
Netpia, the developer of NLIA (Native Language Internet Address),
participated in the program through which it had an opportunity
to team up with Bulgarian organizations to build the NLIA global
architecture together.
In October 2003, Netpia signed an MOU with ICT Development Agency
and IST Foundation of Bulgaria to implement the Bulgarian Language
Internet Address service. After more than 5 months of team efforts,
the pilot service was successfully launched. The service was officially
announced at the Bulgarian Language Internet Address Inauguration
Event held in Sofia, Bulgaria on March 31, 2004. Now students and
government officials in the country can access selected websites
by entering Bulgarian words into the address bar. At the same time,
Bulgaria has became the first country in Europe where all 95-country
versions of NLIA are in service. The bgLIA service will be extended
to the Bulgarian public in the near future.
Bulgaria is now at the transition to a knowledge-based economy
and this new service has been launched in a timely manner. The country
has prepared to become a member of the European Union by the year
of 2007 and the government expects this new project to play a major
engine for economic growth. |
