First of all, I'd like to tell you how I first came to know
Netpia and the idea of Netpia-Turkey began to develop. I have
talked with Netpia for Turkish Language Internet Address since
2003. When I first heard about NLIA, I started to consider how
efficient this system could be for Turkey. Then, I started to
work to introduce NLIA to Turkey as soon as possible.
As you are quite aware, the computer literacy rate in Turkey
is very low. Both computer and internet use is much less than
expected. The 12th anniversary of Internet use in Turkey was
celebrated this week. In 1993, ODTU and Bilkent University
started to host Turkish web sites. Since then, only 10% of
Turkish population have been using internet, which is far
below, that is, just one fifth, than the average in the developed
countries. In this aspect, I believe that Netpia will be a
great help for Turkish Internet development. Turkish Language
Internet Address will help everyone in Turkey start to use
the Internet.
Everyone including even elementary school students and old
people will be able to easily access the Internet sites. Turkish
Language e mail Address will be served within this system
as well. Therefore, we will not have to suffer from writing
English any more. We will be able to use all Turkish letters
to access the Internet and to send e mails, which will encourage
more people to use the Internet and able the current Internet
use of 10% reach 50% of the developed countries. Netpia will
open a new phase for traditional relationship between Korea
and Turkey. I believe that Netpia, who has played a very significant
role in the successful development of Korean Internet, will
play the same role in Turkey.
